Vipin Kumar, PhD

Vipin Kumar Chaturvedi, Ph.D. is a co-founder of GRI Bio and has served as the Chief Scientific Officer and member of the board of directors since GRI’s formation, and is a Professor of Medicine, Laboratory of Immune Regulation at the University of California, San Diego. GRI’s technologies are based on Dr. Kumar’s work in identifying type II natural Killer T cells (NKT II), characterizing NKT cell antigen recognition, and the roles of NKT I and NKT II cells in disease regulation and pathogenesis. Dr. Kumar has published over 115 peer-reviewed papers in the fields of autoimmunity, antigen recognition and NKT biology. Dr. Kumar has held multiple professorships and academic appointments at the Department of Medicine (2015- present) and the Clinical and Translational Research Institute (2012-present), University of California, San Diego; the National Institutes of Neuroscience, University of Tokyo (2005-2006); the Multiple Sclerosis National Research Institute, San Diego (2002-2015); the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies, San Diego (2002-2015); the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, San Diego (1997-2002); and the University of California, Los Angeles (1993-1997). Dr. Kumar obtained his B.S in biology from the Kanpur University, India; his M.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology and immunology from the Institute of Medical Education and Research, India; and his PhD. In biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, India.
